摘要 The present invention provides an in vitro method for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of clear cell Renal Cell Carcinoma in a subject suspected of suffering it, in which method the presence and levels of a phosphorylated form of the protein Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) are determined. Said determination is performed in any isolated sample, in particular in a biopsy of a tumour. The invention relates also to the use of means for detecting said phosphorylated form to be applied in the method for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of clear cell Renal Cell Carcinoma.

An in vitro method for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of clear cell carcinoma in a subject suspected of suffering from it, said method comprising the step of detecting in first sample from the subject the presence of a signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) protein, which comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1: DATNILVXPL wherein X is a phosphorylated serine residue, and wherein detecting said STAT3 protein comprises: a) contacting the first sample with a reagent that binds to the phosphorylated serine residue of SEQ ID NO: 1;b) measuring the amount of STAT3 protein comprising SEQ ID NO: 1 in the first sample;c) comparing the amount of step b) with a STAT3 reference value,wherein if the amount of step b) is equal to or greater than the STAT3 reference value, and the subject has clear cell carcinoma, the prognosis is poor, and wherein if the amount of step b) is less than the STAT3 reference value, the prognosis is good.
