<p>In order to provide a piston ring on which an amorphous carbon film is formed and which has excellent wear resistance and scuff resistance with respect to an aluminum alloy cylinder or cylinder liner, and thus to reduce fuel consumption in an automobile, an amorphous carbon film is formed on the sliding surface of the piston ring, said amorphous carbon film having a Martens hardness (HMT 115) of 5.0 GPa or greater, with the product of the Martens hardness (HMT 115) and the maximum peak height (Sp) of the three-dimensional surface roughness of the surface being 5.0 kPa·m or less.</p> |
