A highly gas-restrictive coating is disposed over the adhesive layer, where the coating is an inorganic layer.

An insulated glass unit (IGU), comprising: a first pane of a transparent material; a second pane of a transparent material, the second pane being spaced apart from the first pane to define a cavity therebetween; an inert fill-gas disposed within the cavity; a metal member bonded to the first pane with a first adhesive layer disposed between portions of the metal member and the first pane, the first adhesive layer forming a first portion of a first gas-tight connection between the first pane and the metal member and having a cavity-facing surface facing the cavity; and a gas-restrictive coating disposed continuously over the cavity-facing surface of the first adhesive layer and forming a second portion of the first gas-tight connection, where the gas-restrictive coating is an inorganic layer having a leak rate of the fill-gas from the cavity through the gas-restrictive coating of less than 1% of the cavity volume per year.
