The present invention relates to a composition containingα-cubebenoate as an active ingredient for preventing or treating allergy. More specifically,α-cubebenoate isolated from schizandra inhibits an activity ofβ-hexosaminidase inducing secretion of mucus from mast cells exposed to an antigen, and an increase of [Ca^(2+)]_i in mast cells so that degranulation of an inflammatory-mediated material inducing allergy can be controlled. Accordingly, a composition containingα-cubebenoate as an active ingredient according to the present invention can effectively prevent or treat allergic diseases.
