PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical article that can be easily manufactured and has a hydrophilic property for a long time.SOLUTION: The optical article transmits therethrough light of wavelength of 587.6 nm or light of wavelength of 1050 nm at 20% or more. When a region from the surface to the inside of the optical article within 500μm is defined as a surface layer region and a region other than the surface layer region is defined as an internal region, the internal region includes a glass phase that contains, by mass% based on oxide, one or more components selected from TiO, PO, NbO, SiOand Oin total of 5% or more and 95% or less. At least part of the surface layer region includes crystal precipitated from a glass phase having the same composition as the glass phase of the internal region.
