METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING DIVERSITY IN POLARIZATION OF ANTENNAS

A method and system for providing diversity in polarization of antennas, called here Polarized Modulation (PM), comprising a receiver (200) with a single one receiving antenna (210) which is double polarized for receiving a signal y to obtain b+1 bits of information from a symbol s transmitted also by a double polarized single one transmitting antenna. The receiver (200) comprises an estimator block (212) for estimating the additional bit c to determine whether a first polarization or a second polarization is used in the transmission, in order to recover the b+1 bits of information. The proposed Polarized Modulation (PM) exploits the Spatial Modulation (SM) but applied for Polarization instead of antennas, in mobile and fixed satellite communications, ensuring an increase of throughput while guaranteeing a minimum increase in power usage and a given required QoS.
