The invention relates to the field of catalysis and concerns the production of catalysts for the polymerization of dicyclopentadiene. A polymerization catalyst having general formula (I), where (II) is a fundamentally novel substituent selected from a group of aminostyrenes. Fundamentally novel catalyst characteristics are thus achieved. The catalyst is produced by reacting a tri-phenylphosphine ruthenium complex with 1,1-diphenyl-2-propyn-1-ol in tetrahydrofuran or dioxane at the boiling point of the solvent in an inert atmosphere and then, the resulting indenylidene ruthenium complex is recovered with tricyclohexylphosphine at room temperature in an inert atmosphere. The indenylidene ruthenium complex is reacted with 1,3-bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-2-trichloromethylimidazolidine and a corresponding aminostyrene, forming the target product. The invention allows for increasing the catalytic activity and chemical activity of a catalyst relative to a wide range of additives used, allows for the ability to control the time and rate of polymerization, for changing the concentration of the catalyst and the polymerization temperature, for increasing the yield of a finished catalyst while minimizing incidental impurities and expanding technological capabilities when polymerizing dicyclopentadiene, and for producing a product out of polydicyclopentadiene, said product being highly useful to consumers. |
