PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separation method of an object to be separated in which the object to be separated is selectively separated from the mixture consisting of the objects to be separated including a micro particulate object to be separated according to a dimension (size) thereof without damaging the object to be separated, and a substrate for separating an object to be separated which is used for the separation method.SOLUTION: A separation method of an object to be separated in which the object to be separated is separated from the mixture consisting of the objects to be separated including a micro particulate object to be separated, includes a step where the mixture consisting of objects to be separated contacts an uneven structure including an uneven pattern 3, thereby depositing the object to be separated on the uneven pattern 3 so that the object to be separated is separated from the mixture consisting of objects to be separated. The uneven pattern 3 is substantially the same dimension as that of the object to be separated.
