<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective display device that has high light transmissivity, can ensure sufficient brightness for display, and can display black.SOLUTION: A transflective display device 1 includes a display panel 2 and a backlight 3. The display panel 2 has a substrate 10 having an electrode 12, a substrate 20 having an electrode 22, and an optical modulation layer 30 including a shape anisotropic member 32; changes the frequency of a voltage to be applied between the electrodes 12 and 22 to rotate the shape anisotropic member 32; and orientates the shape anisotropic member 32 so that its major axis becomes parallel to one of the adjacent substrates while which performing multiple reflection of incident light to display black.</p> |
