The present invention relates to a passive ESS which includes a system connected generation source, an independent generation source, an auxiliary power supply unit, a load, and a power conditioning system (PCS) which is connected to the system connected generation source and the independent generation source by a power transmission line, converts power into AC and transmits the AC into the load after either a first power source or a second power source is compensated by auxiliary peak power. The auxiliary power supply unit includes a battery which is connected to a power line connected to the PCS and outputs auxiliary power, a supercapacitor which is connected in parallel to the battery and outputs the auxiliary peak power by charging and discharging by receiving the auxiliary power, and a switch circuit which is serially connected to the battery and electrically connects or separates the auxiliary power supply unit to or from the PCS by the control of the PCS.
