<p>A lubricating grease consists of an organo-silicon polymer and less than 30 per cent of lithium salt of a fatty acid with at least 8 carbon atoms in the molecule. The lithium soap may be dispersed in a relatively low-boiling (e.g. 300-40 DEG F.) petroleum fraction, mixed with a liquid silicone, the mixture heated until homogeneous and the petroleum solvent then removed by evaporation. When using relatively very low-boiling petroleum solvent, e.g. petroleum ether, pressure may be necessary to attain the solvation temperature of the soap. The silicone may have the formula <FORM:0652754/IV (a)/1> R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 being the same or different alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl radicals and n a whole number greater than 1. Examples are dimethyl, diethyl, ethyl methyl, diphenyl, ditolyl, phenyl tolyl, methyl phenyl and ethyl phenyl silicones. Other suitable compounds are described in Specifications 583,875, 583,878 and 585,400. Small amounts of other ingredients, e.g. corrosion and oxidation inhibitors may be added to the grease, e.g. aryl fatty acids or soaps thereof, naphthenic acid or naphthenates, aliphatic amines, or metallic soaps such as zinc myristate. All the examples use lithium stearate which is mixed in example (1) with phenyl silicone, (2) with dimethyl silicone, (3) dimethyl silicone, polybutene also being included, (4) diethyl silicone, (5) a mixture of dimethyl and diphenyl silicones, (6) a mixture of dimethyl and diethyl silicones, (7) a mixture of phenyl and ethyl silicones.ALSO:A lubricating grease consists of an organo-silicon polymer (see Group IV (a)) and a lithium salt of a fatty acid with at least 8 carbon atoms in the molecule.
