The sensor device (3) has a sensor (85) sensitive to nitrogen oxides and ammonia, and a housing (75) held in the sensor. An inner surface (87) of the housing is provided adjacent to the sensor and catalytically inactive with respect to the ammonia. The inner surface of the housing is shifted with a treatment unit (89) in a catalytically inactive condition. The housing is made of metal such as stainless steel, or metal alloy such as nickel-base alloy. An oxide layer is chemically stable against oil gas components and ammonia of an exhaust gas stream (7). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an exhaust gas cleaning device for cleaning an exhaust gas stream of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle (2) a method for manufacturing a sensor device.
