A system for the combustion of ammonia, comprising a first combustion chamber 2 receiving ammonia 3 and hydrogen 4 in controlled proportions, and oxygen containing gas, preferably air. The system comprises a second combustion chamber 13 that receives exhaust gases from the first combustion chamber along with further ammonia and hydrogen in further controlled proportions along with further oxygen containing gas. A first turbine 8 may receive exhaust gases from the first combustion chamber to generate mechanical output and to provide the exhaust gases to the second combustion chamber. The system may comprise a second turbine 22 receiving discharge gases from the second combustion chamber. A heat exchanger (15, figure 1) may be connected to receive discharge gases from the second combustion chamber to heat water and generate steam to drive the second turbine. The heat exchanger may be integral with the second combustion chamber. A portion of the discharge gas from the second combustion chamber may be recirculated into the oxygen containing gas. |
