<p>A method and system for providing active noise cancellation (ANC) for headphones worn by a user. When the user is wearing the headphones in a quiet environment, a user may initiate determination of a plant model of each ear-cup 402 specific to the user. The plant model is based on at least one reference audio signal provided by a speaker 408 in each ear-cup and an audio signal captured at the same time by a microphone 406 located within each ear-cup. When the user is wearing the headphones in a target noise environment, the user may utilize a remote computer 412 to initiate determination of at least one operating parameter of a controller for each ear cup, based on the plant model and a captured audio signal from the microphone. Each controller is then updated with the new operating parameters for use in active noise cancellation. New operating parameters may be automatically determined, and stored in memory, when a change in noise environment is detected. Each user may therefore enable individualized noise cancelling headphones for one or more noise environments.</p> |
