This disclosure is directed to systems and methods for stacking seismic data. A smoothed-amplitude gather 804 is calculated 806 from a gather 700 of receiver seismic data, the smoothed-amplitude gather having smoothed-amplitude traces that each correspond to a trace of the gather of receiver data. The traces of the gather of receiver data are stacked 800 to generate a noise-reduced trace 802. The stacking is done by calculating amplitudes of the noise-reduced trace as a sum of amplitudes of the traces weighted by smoothed amplitudes of the corresponding smoothed-amplitude traces. Calculating the smoothed amplitude gather may comprise using a sliding window and a weight function applied to amplitudes that fall within the window. A gather of seismic data may have flattened reflection events obtained as a result of normal moveout ("NMO") corrections or pre-stack migration. Alternatively, the gather may be an unmigrated gather with non-horizontal reflection events.
|
