<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control unit and door opening/closing means of a vehicle door opening/closing device for restricting sudden move of a vehicle door when the door is switched to manual operation due to detection of abnormal condition. <P>SOLUTION: In the control unit and door opening/closing means of a vehicle door opening/closing device, when an abnormal signal SX is inputted into a control circuit 52 while a motor 11 is driven so as to move a sliding door automatically, the control circuit 52 stops power supply to the motor 11 and disconnects a mechanical clutch to disconnect a rotational shaft of the motor 11 and a worm shaft, whereby operation of the sliding door is switched from automatic to manual. After the sliding door operation is switched from automatic to manual, when the worm shaft is rotated above a first reference rotational number due to sudden move of the sliding door, a second driving voltage Vd2 is applied to the motor 11 by the control circuit 52 so as to make a rotational number of the rotational shaft of the motor 11 lower than a rotational number of the worm shaft at the time.
