<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element which can enhance light utilization efficiency while suppressing decrease in luminous efficiency, and to provide a light source device. <P>SOLUTION: A light-emitting element 1 comprises a medium 10 having a plurality of surfaces including a light incident surface 10f1 and a light emission surface 10f2, and a phosphor 11 which receives the exciting light incident to the light incident surface 10f1 and radiates fluorescent light from the light emission surface 10f2. On the surface different from the light incident surface 10f1 and light emission surface 10f2 out of the plurality of surfaces, a reflection surface 10f3 is provided which reflects the fluorescent light radiated from the phosphor 11 and guides the fluorescent light to the light emission surface 10f2.
