Dipper door assembly

A dipper assembly includes a dipper, a dipper door, a closure mechanism, and one or more block assemblies. The dipper door is pivotally mounted to the dipper, and has a closed position in which the dipper door covers the dipper bottom. The closure mechanism has a locked position and an unlocked position, and is coupled to the dipper back and the dipper door. In the locked position, the closure mechanism holds the dipper door in the closed position. In the unlocked position, the closure mechanism allows the dipper door to swing away from the closed position. The block assemblies are coupled to the dipper back and limit a rotation of the side link plate to a pre-defined angle that corresponds to the closed position.

1. A dipper assembly for a mining shovel, comprising:
a dipper having a dipper back and an open dipper bottom; a dipper door coupled to the dipper back for movement between an open position and a closed position about a first longitudinal axis, wherein the dipper back provides a locating datum at the first longitudinal axis; a closure mechanism configured to retain the dipper door in the closed position, the closure mechanism comprising:
a link having a first leg disposed adjacent the dipper back and a second leg disposed adjacent the dipper door; andat least one side link plate having a first end pivotally coupled to the first leg and a second end coupled to the dipper back, the second leg of the link pivotally coupled to the dipper door, so that the link and dipper door are movable as an assembly between the closed position and the open position; and wherein the dipper back includes a mounting assembly configured to locate and mount the closure mechanism, the mounting assembly comprising:
one or more fixed mounts coupled to the second end of the side link plate and at least partially defining a second longitudinal axis, wherein the side link plate is rotatable about the second longitudinal axis to a pre-defined over-center angle that corresponds to the closed position; andone or more block assemblies positioned to limit a rotation of the side link plate to the pre-defined over-center angle that corresponds to the closed position, wherein the one or more block assemblies include a stop block coupled to a support frame and received by a socket of the support frame to provide a contact surface for the side link plate in the closed position, and wherein, in order to limit the rotation of the side link late in the closed position to the re-defined over-center angle the one or more fixed mounts and the second longitudinal axis are located relative to the locating datum and the socket is located relative to the locating datum and the one or more fixed mounts.
