Disclosed is a vertical type three-terminal organic light-emitting device which has a vertical type transistor and excellent light emitting efficiency. The vertical type three-terminal organic light-emitting device includes an anode and a cathode which face each other, receive current from a power supply, and supply holes and electrons, respectively; an organic light emitting layer which is located between the anode and the cathode, generates electron-hole excitons with supplied holes and electrons, and emits light; an insulating layer and a third electrode which are successively formed on the outer surface of an counter electrode selected among groups consisting of the anode and the cathode. The counter electrode is enough thin. A voltage for the counter electrode is applied to the third electrode so that the counter electrode can control an EL phenomenon. The insulating layer controls the flow of a current between the gate electrode and the counter electrode, and transmits the dislocation of the gate electrode to the counter electrode and the organic light emitting layer around the counter electrode. |
