An undirected Cantor network, comprising: k bidirectional ports; at least one layer of bidirectional wavelength selective switch nodes configured for performing bidirectional communication of light, wherein at least a given one of said bidirectional wavelength selective switch nodes is configured for receiving a received light signal from a bidirectional wavelength selective switch node in a first layer of said undirected Cantor network, wherein said first layer is a different layer than a layer of said given one of said bidirectional wavelength selective switch nodes, and forwarding said received light signal to a bidirectional wavelength selective switch node in said first layer; and k bidirectional switches for connecting said k bidirectional ports to said at least one layer of bidirectional switch nodes.
