PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for improving data storage by data inversion.SOLUTION: The device includes a processing unit and a memory. The processing unit is configured to acquire a plurality of encoded bits by encoding a plurality of bits, and the processing unit is configured to identify an inversion designation. The processing unit is configured to store bits of a first codeword in the memory as a storage word if the inversion designation indicates that a subset of encoded bits should not be inverted. The processing unit is configured to acquire a second codeword by inverting the encoded bits in the subset of the encoded bits and to store the second codeword in the memory if the inversion designation indicates that the subset of the encoded bits should be inverted.
