PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device and an image projection system that are able to switch an electric power state in tune with a state of the image display device or an environment of the image display device.SOLUTION: An image display device capable of communication via a network includes: energy saving state transition means for shifting to an energy saving state restraining power consumption; transition time setting means for setting a time until shifting to the energy saving state according to a state of the image display device and an environment of the image display device; data input detection means for detecting whether or not data is input into the image display device; and operation detection means for detecting whether or not a user has operated the image display device. The energy saving state transition means shifts to the energy saving state in which power consumption is restrained if the data input detection means has not detected data input, the operation detection means has not detected user operation, and the time until shifting to the energy saving state has passed.
