PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve communication characteristics by appropriately selecting an antenna element from a plurality of antenna elements.SOLUTION: A radio communication device includes: a plurality of antenna elements; antenna switching means for outputting a signal received by a virtual antenna obtained by combining any of the plurality of antenna elements and/or one effective antenna selected from a plurality of effective antennas made up of individual antenna elements; radio communication means for receiving the signal via the antenna switching means; communication opposite station signal detection means for detecting a signal transmitted by a communication opposite station in the signal output by the antenna switching means; reception level measuring means for measuring a reception level of the signal transmitted by the communication opposite station per effective antenna; and maximum reception level search means for searching for a maximum reception level among the reception levels measured by the reception level measuring means. The antenna switching means uses, for reception, an effective antenna corresponding to the maximum reception level detected by the maximum reception level search means.
