PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a hydrogen-containing gas generation apparatus, in which deterioration of activity of a CO conversion catalyst can be compensated while suppressing increase of a running cost thereof. ! SOLUTION: A hydrogen-containing gas generation part P is arranged, includes: a reforming treatment chamber 11 for conducting reforming treatment in a heated state of a reforming burner 1; a steam generation part S for generating steam by the heat of combustion exhaust gas of the reforming burner 1; a converter 3 for converting the reformed gas; and a conversion catalyst cooler 4 for cooling the CO conversion catalyst by using the combustion exhaust gas that have passed through the steam generation part S.
