613059 Disclosed are a drill rod guide (30); a drill rod clamping device and a method for aligning and connecting a second drill rod with a first drill rod. The process of connecting drill rods from a drill string is awkward as it is difficult to properly align and connect additional drill rods. Conventional methods require an operator to manually align the rods which can be dangerous and result in injury. The drill rod guide (30) comprises a first guide member (130) and a second guide member (132). The first (130) and second (132) guide members comprise a first end portion and an intermediate portion having first and second inner surfaces. The second member (132) is configured to move relative to the first guide member (130). The first inner surfaces of the intermediate portions of the first (130) and second (132) guide members form a cylindrical inner surface (118) when the first (130) and second (132) guide members are abutted together. The second inner surfaces of the first end portions of the first (130) and second (132) guide members from a frusto-conical inner surface (120) when the first (130) and second guide (132) members are abutted together. |
