PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detection unit capable of detecting focus in a wide field of view while avoiding a reduction in detection accuracy and increase in size.SOLUTION: A focus detection unit of an image capturing device has an imaging optical system for focusing divided light rays coming through an image capturing lens onto a plurality of photoelectric conversion elements to form an image. A view field mask is located further on a photoelectric conversion element side from an expected imaging plane of the image capturing lens and determines an outer shape of an optical image formed on a detection surface. A focus detection element 114 has photoelectric conversion elements arrayed to extend outside optical images, and includes a plurality of pairs of focus detection areas 114A, 114B, 150A, 150B for detecting optical images 115A, 115B, respectively. A storage unit stores data sets, representing positions of effective areas in each pair of focus detection areas as adjustment values, in a corresponding plurality of storage areas. A control unit obtains the adjustment value data from a storage unit and controls focus adjustment operation by detecting focus of the image capturing lens. |
