Provided is a method for producing γ-Glu-Abu and method for producing yeast extract containing γ-Glu-Abu. Yeast, which is capable of producing γ-Glu-Abu modified so as to retain a variant GAP1 gene and/or modified so that the activity of protein coded in the YGL114w gene increases, is cultivated in a culture medium to generate and accumulate γ-Glu-Abu in the culture medium, and γ-Glu-Abu is harvested from the culture medium to thereby produce γ-Glu-Abu. A yeast extract containing γ-Glu-Abu is produced by preparing a yeast extract using yeast as a starting material having the ability to accumulate γ-Abu, the starting-material yeast being modified so that the activity of the protein coded in the YGL114w is reduced.
