PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulation wire and a coaxial cable excellent in adhesiveness between a conductor and an insulator layer, having excellent property such as low dielectric constant and high thermostability and suitable for narrowing diameters.SOLUTION: There is provided an insulation wire having a conductor and an insulation layer coating a peripheral surface of the conductor and the insulation layer consists of a resin composition mainly containing poly(4-methyl-1-pentene), is according to JIS-K7210:1999 and a melt mass flow rate of the poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) measured at a temperature of 300°C and load of 5 kg of 50 g/10 min. to 80 g/10 min. The content of the poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) in the resin composition is preferably 60 mass% or more. A melting tensile force of the poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) is preferably 5 mN to 8 mN. The melting point of the poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) measured by a differential scanning calorimetric analysis is preferably 200°C to 250°C.
