The ultrasonic observation device of the present invention is provided with: a THI image data generating unit for transmitting first and second ultrasonic signals having different phases or amplitudes along the same line toward a subject and generating image data of a grayscale THI image on the basis of first and second reception signals obtained by receiving first and second ultrasonic echo signals reflected by the subject; a feature amount extracting unit for calculating first and second feature amounts based on frequency spectra of the first and second ultrasonic echo signals, respectively; a tissue characterization image data generating unit for generating image data of a tissue characterization image having a mode in which color is displayed in a region where the value of a third feature amount based on the first and second feature amounts is equal to or greater than, or equal to or less than, a predetermined threshold value; and an image synthesizing unit for generating image data of a synthesized image in which the THI image and the tissue characterization image are synthesized. |
