<p>The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting a material. The apparatus for detecting a material is to detect the existence and type of a material stacked on a pallet in a machine tool. The apparatus comprises: a detecting unit which detects the existence and type of a material by measuring the load of a spindle, and identifies at least one between a material number and a process program number corresponding to the type of the material; a machining unit which machines the material according to a machining method corresponding to the process program number identified by the detecting unit; a memory unit which saves a pattern corresponding to the load value measured by the detecting unit, and saves the material number corresponding to the type of the material corresponding to the pattern and the process program number indicating a processing method corresponding to the material number; and a control unit which determines the existence of the next process for the material and, if the next process is determined to exist, marks the process program number of the next process on a non-cutting area of the processed material.</p> |
