PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively and reliably protect an electric power converter unit.SOLUTION: A boost chopper of the electric power converter unit boosts a DC power supplied from an overhead wire up to a predetermined voltage value. The inverter converts the DC power outputted from the boost chopper into an AC power to output the same to a transformer. The transformer isolates the AC power which is output from the inverter and outputs the same to a rectification part. The rectification part rectifies the AC power which is output from the transformer to output the same to a load. A first current detection section detects an input current on the boost chopper and outputs a first detection signal; and a second current detection section detects an output current from the rectification part and outputs a second detection signal. An abnormality detection section detects an abnormality on the second current detection section based on the first detection signal and the second detection signal.
