An anti-microbial copolymer is disclosed. The anti-microbial copolymer comprises building blocks [BB1] and [BB2]:;;where Ra, Rb and Rc are independently ethyl and/or methyl groups; each Rj is independently selected from a C1 to C10 group; Rk denotes a chain having between 5 and 50 carbon atoms; X+ is nitrogen; and Y− is a halogen ion selected from the group consisting of chlorine, bromine, iodine and fluorine. A polyurethane, a polyurethane and/or acrylate dispersion, and a coating composition comprising the anti-microbial copolymer are also disclosed.
