Provided is an aluminum base material coated with multiple layers, which can be used suitably as a member that is required to have heat insulation performance, such as an engine member, and has satisfactory heat insulation performance, and in which the adhesion to a base material composed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy is excellent. An aluminum base material coated with multiple layers, in which an alumite layer and a ceramic layer are formed in this order on a base material composed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, said aluminum base material being characterized in that multiple cracks each reaching the surface of the base material are formed in the alumite layer, protrusions are formed on an inner wall that constitutes each of the cracks, the ceramic layer penetrates into the inside of each of the cracks, and the ceramic layer is formed around the protrusions. |
