PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input device which can suppress the erroneous recognition of a hand used for touch inputs by a user to a plurality of points even if multiple touches not including a thumb are performed, and an input method.SOLUTION: An input device detects a coordinate of a contact position on a touch input face on which a user performs touch inputs to the touch input face to which the user can perform the touch inputs, determines whether or not one of the touch inputs to a plurality of points with which the user simultaneously contacts is a touch input performed by a thumb of the user on the basis of the detected coordinate, and when it is determined that one of the touch inputs to a plurality of the points with which the user simultaneously contacts is the touch input which is performed by the thumb of the user, determines that whether the hand of the user who has performed the touch inputs to a plurality of the points is a right hand or a left hand according to a relative position of a coordinate of the contact position to which the thumb of the user has performed the touch input and a coordinate of a contact position to which a finger other than the thumb of the user has performed the touch input. |
