The embodiments of the present invention provide a random access method and device, relating to the field of communications; by means of obtaining base station physical random access channel (PRACH) configuration information, sending a preamble on a corresponding initial PRACH resource, such that the base station identifies the access request of a terminal equipment requiring enhanced coverage, while not affecting the access of other terminal equipments. The solution comprises: obtaining at least one stored set of PRACH configuration information, said at least one set of PRACH configuration information being carried in the system information sent by the base station; parsing said at least one set of PRACH configuration information to obtain the corresponding initial PRACH resource; beginning from said initial PRACH resource to send a preamble to the base station, enabling the base station to establish a connection to the terminal equipment according to said preamble.
