The present invention relates to an electrolyte composition containing an active material and an organic acid having one or more carboxylic acid groups, and a redox flow battery using the same. The electrolyte composition according to the present invention contains the organic acid having one or more carboxylic acid groups instead of an inorganic acid having high acidity such as a sulfuric acid and a hydrochloric acid, thereby ameliorating cell corrosion and improving the stability of the battery if an electrolyte leaks out. In addition, when applied to the redox flow battery, the electrolyte composition improves charge and discharge capacity and also increases battery lifespan by reducing the corrosion of an ion exchange membrane and a current collector.
