According to the present invention, disclosed is an image processing device based on sharpening filtering and an image processing method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the image processing method includes the steps of: filtering input image data by using multiple directional filters; comparing the respective filtering results to the corresponding threshold values; summing at least a part of the output values of the directional filters selectively according to the comparison result; and conducting a first calculation operation for the sum and the input image data.
