a shell; at least one sensor inside the shell for measuring a property of a fluid concrete; a transmitter connected to the sensor for transmitting data from the sensor; and a power source inside the shell and connected to the sensor and the transmitter, the device having a weight less than a buoyancy of the device such that the device floats at the surface of the fluid concrete.
