The invention provides improved agents for treatment of diseases associated with amyloid deposits of Aβ in the brain of a patient and methods of treatment. Such methods entail administering agents that induce a beneficial immunogenic response against the amyloid deposit. The methods are useful for prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Preferred agents include N-terminal fragments of Aβ binding to a peptide carrier, wherein the fragment of Aβ consists of: (i) Aβ 1-7 with aminoacid sequence DAEFRHD or (ii) a multimer according to (i).
