A portable photovoltaic device comprised of photovoltaic sections separated by one, or more, hinges and that provides for the photovoltaic sections to be collapsed or expanded for the alternative purposes of transportation or charging.

A portable photovoltaic recharging device comprised of at least two photovoltaic sections made from a rigid material formed into complementary shapes so that the plurality of photovoltaic sections form a geometric shape when closed and where each photovoltaic section contains at least one photovoltaic cell that is permanently affixed so its photoactive side is to the exterior of the photovoltaic section and covered by a clear, rigid material and where each photovoltaic section is attached to and separated by an operable hinge to an adjacent photovoltaic section where the operable hinge provides for the plurality of photovoltaic sections to be manipulated into open and closed positions and where at least one photovoltaic section is attached to an encasement and wherein all device encasements are contained within the closed envelope of the device where the device envelope is formed by the plurality of photovoltaic sections in a closed configuration and where at least one encasement contains electrical components necessary for the operation of the device.
