An area light source, backlight module and display device, the area light source comprising: at least one optical fiber (2) and at least one light source (1) disposed at one end of the at least one optical fiber (2) in one-to-one correspondence; the at least one optical fiber (2)each is provided with a plurality of light exiting windows (3) at intervals along the length direction; the light beams emitted by light sources (1) are transmitted along respective optical fibers and are emitted out of the optical fibers through the plurality of light exiting windows (3) respectively. The area light source and backlight module employing the area light source have the advantages of high light concentration, wide color spectrum and high efficiency, and the display device employing the backlight module has better display effect.
