The invention relates to a device for detecting angle or position changes, comprising a light source (4) for emitting light and a coding mask (9) arranged in the beam path of the light source for modulating the light. The coding mask (9) has a counting pulse track (10) and an index track (11), to each of which a light detector array (6A and 6B respectively) is assigned. The device also has an evaluation device (12) which evaluates the output signals of the light detector arrays, generates counting pulses from the output signals of the light detectors that are assigned to the counting pulse track, and generates an index pulse (16) to be assigned to the counting pulses from the output signals of the light detectors that are assigned to the index track. The evaluation device (12) has means (14) for forming a sum signal from non-inverted output signals of a first group Z of light detectors of the light detector array (6B) of the index channel and from inverted output signals of a second group Z' of light detectors of the light detector array (6B) of the index channel. The device is characterised in that the sum of the surfaces of the light detectors (7) of the first group Z of light detectors is equal to the sum of surfaces of the light detectors of the second group Z' of light detectors, the surface and quantity of light detectors preferably being equal. |
