<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently enhance accuracy of approximate position information to be transmitted to a communication terminal. <P>SOLUTION: According to a positioning method (positioning support method) using a positioning support system 10 and a positioning system 1 including a positioning support system 10, a positional relationship among communication areas included in the history information is estimated on the basis of history information indicating a history of communication areas (cells) in which a communication terminal 60 has existed in the past, and approximate position information to be stored in an approximate position information database is updated on the basis of a result of the estimation. Thus, by estimating the positional relations among the communication areas, the approximate position information can be more accurately acquired compared with a case with no information regarding the positions of the communication areas.
