<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a new function of mannosyl erythritol lipid having a D-mannopyranosyl-meso-erythritol structure and to provide applications of the same. <P>SOLUTION: Mannosyl erythritol lipid (MEL) having a structure represented by general formula (1) or (2) exhibits excellent antioxidative performance. Therefore, an antioxidant composed of MEL and various utilization methods for the same have been developed. The antioxidant has free radical-scavenging performance, active oxygen-eliminating performance and oxidative stress-protecting performance. Thus, the antioxidant inhibits oxidation of the skin and can be utilized for applications for preventing or treating ageing of the skin including deterioration of elasticity such as spots, wrinkles, flabbiness and the like, skin inflammation, melanogenesis and the like. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
