700,285. Control of D.C. motors. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 3, 1952 [July 17, 1951], No. 13905/52. Class 38(3) A number of traction motors M1-M4 are supplied from an engine-driven generator G having a field winding BF in series with a rheostat FR controlled by governor GOV which also regulates the fuel-supply to the engine. Actuation of switches P or S enables the motors to be connected either individually, in parallel or in series-connected pairs across the generator. Manual operation of any one of cut-out switches CO1-CO4 removes the appropriate motor from circuit, the remaining motors being placed in parallel across the machine G. At the same time a relay OL becomes effective in the event of an overload to energize a relay OS which exerts an over-riding control upon the governor GOV to reduce the output of the generator. |
