The invention relates to a seal (1) for sealing an upper (2) and a lower (3) half of a housing for liquids against each other, comprising a circumferential inner seal portion (4) which sits against the upper and the lower housing halves in a sealing manner when the seal is installed; and comprising a circumferential outer seal portion (5) which sits against the upper and the lower housing halves in a sealing manner when the seal is installed. The outer seal portion has: at least one ridge (6) which faces a housing half and which receives a housing half rib (7) when the seal is installed, said rib being complementary to the ridge; or at least one rib (6') which faces a housing half and which is received in a housing half ridge (7') when the seal is installed, said ridge being complementary to the rib. The seal also comprises a connecting piece (8) between the inner and the outer seal portion (4, 5).
