The invention relates to a device (1) for reinforcing a bottom crossbeam of an opening (2) having a deformable flexible top portion (3) and designed to receive a bottom edge of a motor vehicle windscreen force-fitted onto said flexible top portion when installing the windscreen on the motor vehicle. The device of the invention includes a removable means for stiffening the bottom crossbeam of the opening, including at least first (10) and second (30) mobile portions sliding relative to one another between a retracted position, and at least one extended position in which said first (10) and second (30) portions are capable of engaging so as to support the flexible top portion (3) of the bottom crossbeam of the opening during the force-fitting of the windscreen.
