<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a resin composition that contains a modified cellulose nanofiber modified by a substituent having a carboxyl group and is uniformly dispersed in a resin, wherein the mechanical strength such as bending strength and elastic modulus can be improved; a method of producing the resin composition; a molding material obtained by using the resin composition; and a molded product. <P>SOLUTION: The resin composition comprises: the modified cellulose nanofiber (A) in which a hydroxy group of the cellulose nanofiber is partially replaced with the carboxyl group; and a resin (B).
