[Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XII] In a rotary gas producer of the kind in which an ash removal plough in the ashpan is rotatable with the gas producer and is adapted to be held stationary to discharge ashes by a releasable latch engaging with an arm of the plough, the 'latch is locked by mechanism comprising toggle linkage to hold the plough stationary and provided with unlocking means to release the latch. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, an arm 12 of the plough projects outwardly beyond the rim of the ashpan 11 of the producer 10 so that it may be engaged by a latch 20 supported at one end of a shaft 19 mounted, in a bracket 15 secured to a column 14. The opposite end of the shaft 19 is provided with a pivoted lever 29, 30 to which is secured a a heavy weight 32 and a lever 25 keyed to the shaft and carrying a light weight 26. The levers 29, 25 are provided with depending arms 36. 24 connected by toggle linkage 38, 41, the link 41 being provided with a lug 44 and set-screw 45 to engage the upper 'surface of the link 38 and limit the downward movement of the pin 40 to a point slightly below the line joining the pins 37, 42. In the position of the mechanism shown in Fig. 1. the arm 12 is engaged by the latch 20 and when it is desired to release the latch, an electric motor 51 is energized to operate hydraulic apparatus 50 of the 'kind described in Specification 437,176, [Group XXIX], and raise an abutment 48 to engage with a lug 47 on the toggle link 38 and so unlock the toggle and permit movement of the arm 24, lever 25, shaft 19 and latch 20 by the pressure of the plough arm 12. If during the ploughing operation the pressure against the latch should become excessive the arm 29 and weight 32 will be lifted to allow the plough arm to pass beneath the latch. The latch may be rendered inoperable by means of a screw 55 mounted on the lever 25 which when the toggle is broken may be screwed down to engage. with the lever 29 to prevent the toggle from locking. At each revolution of the producer the arm 12 will simply lift the latch and pass beneath it. |
