A polymer containing a recurring unit having an aliphatic polycyclic structure, wherein at least two atoms constituting the ring skeleton of the aliphatic polycyclic structure constitute the main chain of the polymer, and the aliphatic polycyclic structure has a five-membered aliphatic ring containing a sulfonyl group in the ring skeleton, which is represented by the following formula (A): and further containing a second recurring unit selected from the group consisting of recurring units represented by the following formulas (21), (22), (23), (24) and (25), in addition to the above recurring unit having an aliphatic polycyclic structure: wherein R21 to R30 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent and at least two of R21 to R30 may bond to each other to form a ring; X and Y each independently represent any of —CH2—, a thioether group, an ether group or a sulfonyl group; Z represents —CH2—CH2—, a vinylene group or a vinyleneoxy group; n indicates an integer of from 0 to 2; and when n is 2, two Y's, two R25's, two R26's, two R27's and two R28's each may be the same or different; wherein R31 to R38 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent, and at least two of R31 to R38 may bond to each other to form a ring; X and Y each independently represent any of —CH2—, a thioether group or an ether group with the proviso that any one of X and Y is a thioether group or an ether group; and Z represents —CH2—CH2—, a vinylene group or a vinyleneoxy group; wherein R41 to R44 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group or a halogenoalkyl group, provided that at least one of R41 to R44 is not a hydrogen atom; and any of R41 or R42, and any of R43 or R44 may bond to each other to form a ring.
